Exerpts of the video work. Photos 5-7 of the performance by Kristiina Hansen in Sõprus cinema, Tallinn, Estonia, 2026.
The work combines video with performance – video and photographs printed on transparency film and are projected with a slide projector onto the same screen, creating two layers — seemingly a static photograph and dynamic video.
But the photograph is not static. It is not static either in terms of what is depicted in the photograph — water in its new, foamy form — or because of the performance taking place in real time. Thus, the work brings together video, photography, and the artist’s hands in front of the projector, which play with and transform the photographic image we see.
Ultimately, the work engages with time, setting two forms of time against one another — as if time were standing still in the photograph, while moving, and at times moving rapidly, in the video.
What happens to time when we do nothing?
